Understand Rogers 5880 laminated PCB material

PTFE material is a thermoplastic material, which is softer and easier to bend than the traditional FR4 PCB material, and the cost is high.  Many special processes such as plasma processing are required during processing.  After years of technical precipitation, Rocket PCB has accumulated a lot of valuable experience in the manufacturing of PTFE materials.  At present, it has continuously provided high-quality PCB making services for many leading millimeter wave technology companies at home and abroad!

Rogers 5880 laminates are manufactured with the same high-quality, reliable materials and processes as the Rogers substrate, which has won Rogers an important award in the field of high-frequency material manufacturers. In some designs, the dielectric properties of PCB are very important. Whether it's high-speed, RF, microwave, or mobile, power management is the key, and you’ll find that there are more cases in PCB prototypes that require board dielectric properties than the standard FR-4 can’t provide. We know that’s why we expanded the pcb prototype with Rogers 5880 dielectric material. These new low loss dielectric materials mean higher performance for demanding PCB prototypes.

Why use Rogers dielectric material?

FR-4 material is the basic standard of PCB substrate, which can achieve efficient balance and performance between cost, manufacturing capacity, electrical performance and durability. But if electrical characteristics and advanced performance are the foundation of your design, Rogers materials is your ideal choice because:

1. Reduce dielectric loss

2. Low loss electrical signal

3. Wide range DK (dielectric constant) value (2. 55-10. 2)

4. Low cost circuit manufacturing

5. Low air release space application

Dielectric material:

Dielectric material is a material with poor conductivity, which is used as insulation layer in PCB structure. Porcelain, mica, glass, plastics and some metal oxides are good dielectrics. The lower the dielectric loss (the energy lost in the form of heat), the more effective the dielectric material is. If the voltage in the dielectric material becomes too high, that is, when the electrostatic field becomes too strong, the material suddenly begins to conduct current. This phenomenon is called dielectric breakdown.

Properties of RT Duroid 5880

Very low dielectric loss

Low hygroscopicity

Electrical properties with uniform frequency

Excellent chemical resistance, including solvents and reagents for printing and coating

Friendly environment

Pre impregnation (pre-preg)

The shrinkage of "pre impregnated composite fiber" and PCB production, pre-pregs will affect the performance characteristics of printed circuit boards. A term used in the PCB manufacturing industry to describe the material used to connect the layers of the adhesive layer of multilayer PCB.

RT Duroid 5880 high frequency laminate from Rogers

The Rogers 5880 high frequency laminate series uses PTFE composites to reinforce glass fibers. These fibers are statistically oriented to maximize fiber gain and provide the most valuable direction for PCB circuit manufacturers and end use applications. These high-frequency laminates have the lowest dielectric constant of any product, and their low dielectric loss makes them suitable for high-frequency / broadband applications where dispersion and loss must be minimized. Due to its extremely low water absorption, RT Duroid 5880 is well suited for use in high humidity environments.

These advanced circuit materials can be easily cut, cut and processed to form any solvent and reagent commonly used in circuit boards or edge and hole plating. They have very low electrical losses for any reinforced PTFE material, and they also have very low hygroscopicity and are isotropic. They have uniform electrical characteristics in frequency. High frequency RT Duroid 5880 is used in commercial telephone companies, airlines, microstrip and stripline circuits, millimeter wave system applications for military radars, missile system antennas, digital radio and other wireless applications. The RT Duroid 5880, filled with PTFE compounds, is designed for the rigorous application of integrated circuits and microcircuits.

Roger PCB material has the lowest DK value of copper laminate available on the market. Because of its low permittivity of 1. 96 at 10 GHz, RT Duroid 5880 supports broadband applications with microwave frequencies in the millimeter range, where dispersion and circuit losses must be minimized. It is a single filled, lightweight PTFE composite with extremely low density (1. 37 g / cm3) and low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) along the z-axis, providing high frequency manufacturing (PTH) holes and achieving higher payloads.  In addition, the dielectric constant from plate to panel is uniform and constant over a wide frequency range, and the z-axis tcdk is as low as + 22ppm / ° C.
