by:Rocket PCB     2019-10-30
Several reports on Friday suggested that the iPhone X would be difficult to market in November 3.
I asked around to see what other knowledgeable people were saying.
Background: A group of media reports on Friday quoted KGI Securities-
He said, only 2-
3 million units will be shipped and sold before the release on November 3.
\"Needless to say, if it\'s true, it\'s just a drop in the ocean. (
Pre-orders for IPhone X will begin on October 27. )
Guo said the \"biggest obstacle\" to increasing mass production of the iPhone X is the flexible printed circuit board of the antenna system, according to 9to5Mac.
The report also listed \"wide-angle camera circuit board\" as a bottleneck.
KGI lowered expectations for iPhone X shipments in the fourth quarter
30-30 miles from million
35 million units
Another report from Japan\'s Nikkei Seton on Saturday (10/21)
Guo Taiming, chairman of the weighing point iPhone manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry (
Foxconn Technology Group)
Apple Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams \"plans to meet\" when he visits Taiwan later this month \".
The Nikkei cited two industry sources.
The article then reiterated the previous Nikkei News report, 3-
D sensor module--
A component in the IPhone X gap--
Affected the production of iPhone X.
Then add: IHS Markit, IDC, and Gartner\'s point of view: if you haven\'t guessed it yet, the result is that many consumers who want the iPhone X in November will have to wait.
This may continue until next year.
Wayne Lam of IHS Markit, chief analyst at mobile electronics: \"Well. . . 2018.
\"From all the signs, Apple will [have]
Until early 2018, the supply of the iPhone X was limited, \"Lam told me in an email on Friday.
\"It\'s not a bad thing because it will drive demand before the holidays.
Strong demand indicates that Apple [is]
Nevertheless, loyal customers remain. . . competition.
Uesh Ubrani, IDC analyst: \"Apple will. . . feel the pinch.
Ubrani told me in an email on Friday: \"We expect a very limited number at launch because the supply of key components is limited . \".
\"While Apple is usually very good at managing the supply chain, this is one of the few times they feel the pressure.
Ryan Reith, IDC analyst: \"3.
5 million in launch.
\"We have been saying for months that we expect to have 3.
\"The 5 M iPhone X is available at launch,\" Reith told me on Saturday in an email.
\"Considering production issues, we also expect a small supply of 2017 of the products, although we have recently heard that some obstacles have been removed, so this should mean that there will be more products in late November and December.
Gartner: \"sales per unit are 2018.
\"While I didn\'t communicate directly with Gartner analysts, Gartner mentioned a research report released on Wednesday, October 17.
Although Apple\'s iPhone X is expensive, Gartner expects it to be a sales driver in North America, China and Western Europe, adding, \"given the iPhone X\'s launch in late November, we expect the replacement cycle of the iPhone to flow more strongly into 2018, \"said Roberta Coza, research director at Gartner, in the report.
While the iPhone X was not specifically mentioned, the research report went on to say: \"The shortage of components may result in the inability to meet smartphone demand in 2017, further driving unit sales to 2018.
\"I asked Apple to comment, but I haven\'t received a response yet.
