What is the difference between PCB and metal core PCB?

What are the advantages of metal core PCB?
Some of the advantages of metal core printed circuit boards are that they use special substrate materials that are specially formulated to improve the reliability of designs that operate at higher than normal temperatures. Rather than simply serving as a mounting surface for various components, the substrate actively draws heat from the location of the hot-running components to the opposite layer of the circuit board, allowing it to dissipate heat efficiently and safely.
In many ways, LEDs are like other components mounted on a circuit board. If there are only a few LEDs, such as green and red indicators, for turning the device on and off, then there is no need to do anything special when laying out the PCB. However, there are lighting solutions that use rows or columns of LEDs that stay on for long periods of time.
The big question is how to keep these devices cool so they don’t fail prematurely or pose a safety hazard. Efficient cooling is also required to ensure consistent light output. Changing the PCB from a standard FR4 type to a metal core PCB (MCPCB) such as an aluminum PCB is an option worth considering.
